Bush’s Shoegate

Yesterday’s shoe-throwing event, now termed “shoegate” was a highlight in Bush’s remaining lame-duck presidency. Touted as one of the strongest insults in Arab culture because it signifies that the person is as low as the dirt underneath the sole of a shoe, the act spurred a wave of various reactions from around the world.
However, Iraqis especially were divided in their opinions. Some denounced the journalist saying that he was giving Iraqis a bad reputation and should have acted professionally, while others praised the action, saying it was a “reminder to Bush about his wars and causalities in Iraq, but in an Iraqi way.”
